Default Need help finding shop for '93 Mustang

I have a '93 5.0 Mustang as my daily driver and was recently told that I need to have new gears and bearings installed in the rear. The Ford dealership wants $1,668.00 to do the install (ouch!). Does anyone know a shop that they'd recommend in the Atlantic City, NJ area for this job and how much should it cost if I supply the gears?

Thanks

any High School/College Auto Shops in the area. They might take it on with the watchful of the instructor for a grade.

I've thought about that; just afraid I might be getting into the same boat plus I think I might have a hard time finding one with the 3.73:1 gears like I have currently.

I used the Bontempo Brothers Speed Shop, 1539 W Blancke St, Linden, NJ 07036-6219, (908) 862-6336

They have had a speed shop for about 40 years in the same location. It's like walking into a time warp with all the vintage stuff they have hanging on the walls. They specialize in rear differential work.

I had them set up the 10 bolt rear for my 72 T/A. It did cost about $1100. They hot tanked the housing, replaced all the gear and axle bearings, rebuilt the posi unit with new clutches and reinstalled and set up the original 3.42 gears. The days of the $200 gear swap are well past unless you do it yourself.

Remember you always have the time and money to do it right the second time around.

With rear end gears you really need a pro (or someone who knows what they are doing) to install them. You can destroy a new gear set in about 10 seconds.

the 8.8 is a pretty simple rear to set up wtih new gears, depends on how complete of a rebuild you want. Look for some 5.0 gearheads in the area, they probably have some stock gears they'll set you up with, would be a good source to find a personor shop to do the swap.
theres quite a few 5.0 and mustang sites that you could check out to find someone local.

I would try to find a complete rear. I know this one is too far away but this is not the only cheap axle available out there.

Albert,

The rear is still in the car; I use the car as my daily driver. I am sure I could get the car to your shop; how much do you think your friend would want with me supplying the parts?
This would be so cool, I could get my car fixed properly and maybe get a glimpse of that beautiful Chevelle you're building.

Thanks for the offer
