Ok so maybe a 6 quart oil pan wasn't a good idea. We are installing a 427 in our 6 cyl 68 Biscayne this weekend. With the motor in the mounts the middle of the oil pan rests on the center link. (6 quart LS6 pan new from GM) Any ideas of a fix other than the correct pan? All we need is a 1/2 inch.
Thanks

Being it's a modified car anyway, could you heat and bend both ends of the center link so the mid section is down lower to clear then wind all the tie rods out to extend the total length back to the same again?.
Or is there any another Pitman and idler arm even from something else that would work and help clear?. Are there other engine motor mounts or frame mount stands that could lift the whole engine enough to clear?. There's no other holes in the frame already that mounts the stands higher is there?. If there is, you may need different mounts to match?. Could you put 1/2" spacers between the frame mount stands using longer bolts?. Considering the V shape, if spacing the stands you may have to mount them slightly higher on the frame or maybe try spacing both them and where the motor mounts themselves are bolted to the engine to arrive at a happy compromise?. Whatever way you may achive the lift, be careful of clearances like fans to shrouds, exhaust, bellhousing and distrib to body etc.. Good luck! ![]() ~ Pete |

If you used '69 frame brackets you may have '67-'68 motor mounts. They will fit the brackets but are shorter than the correct '69 mount.

I know on the A & F bodies you can mix/match the small & big block uppers/lowers to move the engine around ever so slightly...might be worth a look?

I dont know if its the same or not but my 67 bbc has a step in the oil pan to allow clearance for the center link. a standard bbc oil pan on my car will not clear. there is a repop at one of the impala specialty sights. if this sounds like it might help let me know & ill find the old link I have.

The frame mounts and the motor mounts are 68 Impala big block. We pulled the centerlink today and only need 1/2 an inch for the clearance. I think we are going to take it to my machine shop and have them notch the centerlink on the lathe then weld a piece on the front side to compensate to the material we removed. Thanks for the thoughts and suggestions.
