Default Air conditioning question

I just recharged the A/C on my 69 Camaro. There was still pressure in the system when I charged it but the A/C was not getting cold. I thought the system had just got low since the last time it was charged was 1986. After charging the system the air is still coming out hot. I thought the heater valve may be stuck open so I zip tied a kink in the heater hose right before the valve. The air is still not cold. The compressor kicks on when the switch is turned on and the metal line coming out of the A/C breifcase is ice cold with frost on it. Any ideas?

Thanks,

Jason
