fly eye air cleaner question

ive got an old fly eye air cleaner that needs re-finishing.not sure of the brand/model but right now the outer screen has a bright chrome finish on it.it just doesn't look right,didn't they come with a different finish on that screen.also there is a thick round wire that is being used to retain the upper screen onto the housing.
