OK, please forgive me asking a question about a Jeep. I have a fully restored 1974 CJ5 Renegade w/ a 304V8(and it is really restored, even you guys would be impressed!!)
It has a T-18 3 speed transmission that had been rebuilt 8 years ago, Since then she has maybe done 1,000 miles. When the trans is cold no problem changing gears. But when it heats up you have to force it into 1st from neutral. Why would this only occur when hot? Is it the first gear syncros that need replacing? I appreciate letting me ask this question. Thank you for the help!! Bill O'Brien

First thing I would do is to try double clutching it first. Pull it back into second and then try to put it in first.
If this works better then it just may be the clutch is sticky with so little use. It may be that it is not releasing completely. If it is hydralic you may need to adjust the rod out longer or pump it a few times first and then try it. If that is not the answer your only other choice is to change the trany grease while hot. It may be bad. If it is low it will shift hard when it getts up to temp. Last of all you may have to replace the brass on the First gear syncro drum. Good luck Pantera

my thought also is the clutch is not fully releasing and giving you some trouble slideing into..1st,,is it a non syncro 1st type trans??? also re-bleed the hyd clutch slave if it has one.
