I just recharged the A/C on my 69 Camaro. There was still pressure in the system when I charged it but the A/C was not getting cold. I thought the system had just got low since the last time it was charged was 1986. After charging the system the air is still coming out hot. I thought the heater valve may be stuck open so I zip tied a kink in the heater hose right before the valve. The air is still not cold. The compressor kicks on when the switch is turned on and the metal line coming out of the A/C breifcase is ice cold with frost on it. Any ideas?
Thanks, Jason ![]() |

Thanks, Jason ![]() [/ QUOTE ] do you have a/c gauges? you actually need to connect them so we can have some answers of how your system is running right now.... before you waste valuable R12........ it may still be low...... or........... how much preasure was in the system before you recharged it? if it was only a few pounds then the system may have been zero at one time.now only showing presure based on a warmer ambient temperature.if it ever became low enough(equal to or below atmospheric pressure) in your case sea level 14.7 psi you will have moist atmosphere enter your system.contaminating the syatem with moisture.Santa Cruz has 80 percent or more relative humidity many days of the year! it may be a good idea to evacuate your system and start over.. |

There was pressure in the system before I started but I do not have gauges to see how much.

ok,
but how much preasure? understand that if it only had a few pounds on a warm day,it may be possible to have been zero on a cold one. therefore contaminating the system with air, moisture etc....

I understand. I can not say how much pressure. I just know when I pushed on the valve it made a loud hiss. I think I will take it to the A/C shop tomorrow to have it checked out. I just thought there may have been a simple issue that I missed.
Thanks for the help, Jason |

Looks like your POA valve is not opening. Time to get the mallet out and give it a few taps.
You should get a set of guages and find out what pressures are on both sides of the system (hi press and low press). Good luck. Phil Woj. |
