Default Canadian code?

I have a '70 Olds with a Y68 code, appearance group. Does anyone know what this code consists of? It may be a Canada only code.

Thanks

Don't think it is a canadian code only. Not 100% sure on 70 but in the late 60's it was body side and wheel well opening mouldings so I cannot see why Gm would change it for 70. take care Joe

Phil
That code appears on documentation from GM canada on cars sold new here. There was nothing physically different about the cars. I think this code was for Canadian Documentation, as in the warranty booklet, owners manual, different POP and in 70 and up models an Oil Change sticker on the valve cover advising of different requirements in a colder climate(like Michigan and Minnesota dont get cold.) I have letters from GM for 1971 cars that show W84,additional fuel and Z49,mandatory Canadian Base equipment (documentation).
The crew at the GM vintage services tend to use current discriptions on some of the older option codes.
One documentation I have shows a Y62 and this is on a car with special order paint.

Thanks for the feedback. My car also shows Y62 and calls out special order paint. The car is Aegean Aqua. When I asked George Z about the Y68 he was unsure of its meaning.

I still cannot nail down 1970 but it seems Gm used the same code for different packages in different years which is Odd.
69 and back it seems to be wheel well mouldings and body trim
Y68 $36.10 Body Side and Wheel-Opening Moldings.

I looked at an opotion list and it didn't have Y68 on it but GM Canada does refer to it as appearance group.

Phil,

Post some pics and details about your car. I'd love to see it. I've wanted an Aegean Aqua W car or 442 for a long time (Love that color!).

Joe,

There is a pic at www.musclecarlegendsmuseum.com. Go to Oldsmobile, click then click again on the thumbnail. I don't have any other pics on the computer. It's a 4spd rag out of Edmonton. The car is loaded for a stick with p/s, p/w, decklid opener, tilt, gauges etc.

Phil,

Very cool! I've seen tha picture before. Congratulations, you have to have one of the most rare 442's made.

70 W30 4speed with special order paint.

My 72 W30 from Canada doesn't have the Y68 code.

Did you order the information from GM Canada yet?

Joe

Hi Phil,

Awesome Muscle Car collection you have assembled. Your 1970 W-30 convertible four-speed car is truly the Holy Grail for Oldsmobile enthusiasts. I believe the Aegean Aqua was primarily used as an Oldsmobile Tornado color but was a special order color on the 442 and W-machines although, I could be mistaken. Do you have any plans to add more Oldsmobile convertibles to your collection-possibly a 1971 or 1972 convertible? Those would be very nice additions. Thanks for sharing your incredible museum photos with the many enthusiasts on this forum. Happy New Year!!

John
