Here's one for ya Marlin. Where did that car wind up. Last time I heard, it was in Florida with the motor out. Car was being sold seperate. Then later I heard from a guy that someone in PA got a hold of it.

Not sure which one you are referring to, as there are several floating around. I know that a few members here traded a '72'ish single puffer amongst themselves, ran very good per their experiences. I think it was gold or brown?

I think he is talking about the puffed Nova that had 70-71 Z28 wheels on it (in some of the magazines)

Yep, you got it. It's kind of funny how that stuff got passed by 30+ yrs. ago and now all of a sudden it's a common place on cars and trucks. Instead of the 2brl to 4brl, now its turbos.

Hey guys,I think I have that in the back of one of my ChevyII Nova books. If it is the same one I asked one of the BigWheels from GM about that car at the St.Ignace car show a few years ago and his answer was "Oh thats long gone".It was a test mule for turbocharging. If I can find the article I will scan it and post it here.

One thing is missing in this picture though. All the smoke that was coming off of those Firestones on that NO-VA!

I found it.It's in a Brooklands Books ChevyII Nova&SS 1962-1972.It has a green cover with a 68 ChevyII SS page 94 titled Super Nova. The main article came from Car Craft March 1972.Calling Bob Ashton.Got any March 1972 Car Craft magazines in your stash?I scanned them into my computer but cannot figure out how to get them over to Photobucket.
It says that this car actually saw street use in Detroit. Kendall

Rick Dobertin and his wife owned a speed shop in VA when I was in high school and we used to go by the shop all the time to buy parts and check the progress on the Nova. That car was not only a twin turbo, but also was supercharged! The craftmanship of the car was second to none. Rick was way ahead of his time with that car. He built a few other projects including the stainless steel car/boat that was made from a stainless steel tanker truck.
We also used to street race after hours in front of Rick's shop as it was in the middle of an industrial park and the road was very wide and dead straight for a mile. It was a great place before the cops learned about it. Man those were some fun times! |
