The car is a stick, auto and manual is the same length. The Monte shaft will work ONLY if the car was orig. a big block turbo 400.

Mr.70 is the expert on these and is asking for good reason. 70 original 454 chevelles used a different drive shaft. For one they had a heavy duty pinion flange and different diameter than 402's used, etc,etc..
Rick can correct me if I am wrong and fill in the blanks.

You are correct that 454's are different with the size of the u-joints. But stick or auto does not matter. The only differance found on the stick and auto shafts are the length of the bottle neck length. Which is hardly visable, maybe an inch. Both shafts are the same length. I would love to find an orig. 454 shaft but will settle for something close or i'am going to buy an aftermarket shaft. The car is a frame off restored car that will be a driver the other car has its orig. shaft (thank god).
Thanks again guys.

Brian's right,I was wrong to state it that way & by no means an expert.
My initial question to scott should've been is it from a BB Monte Carlo?
Somebody here has to have one for ya..

Not an easy item to find. I have tried very hard in the past to buy some of these and put them on the shelves but no luck. When I do find them they are usually too pitted to use even after Quantam does their handiwork. As a side note, I believe the 455 A-body cars use the same shaft as well as some others.

I was unaware that there was a difference between an auto and manual and will have to check into this further. Other then the auto LS-6 that is coming I have never restored any other then 4-speed cars.

We used th400 GTO ones also when we raced the ls-5.They worked with the right u-joints.I cannot remember the combination on the joints, front was fine I think back had to be the one that was not symetrical to fit the 454 rear flange. Too long ago.
Putting them on the shelves is the problem Rick. They must be kept under your bed or in a warm closet. You have seen this one before. I'm keeping it rust free for you
