Default Help needed identifying partial VIN

I have a 1965 dated M21 and the partial VIN I found on it is 5Z118585. Does anyone know what type of car that is with the 'Z' in the partial VIN?

That is for a Chevelle built at the Freemont plant.

Thanks. If anyone is a member at Team Chevelle and wants to post the information in case someone has the car it belongs to, go ahead. I just changed the clutch and put the trans back in, but if the car is found it belongs to, I'll pull it back out if the owner wants it.

Could be a GTO also... couldn't it? Jeff was there another number in front of the 5? 1 would be for Chevrolet and a 2 would be for Pontiac... or did they start that later?

1= Chevy
2= Pontiac
3=Olds
4=Buick
This coding started in the 1968 model year V.I.N.'s
If the trans has a 429 tail housing(driver side speedo) could be Pontiac... Hope this helps... Crash

Passenger side speedo connection for sure. I'll check the tailshaft tonight.
