Default LOS Big Block VIN Stamp

Has anyone here seen an LOS BB Camaro or Chevelle that has the VIN stamping upside down on the engine pad? I think that I've seen examples of this before, but want to make sure before pulling the trigger...Thanks

I don't know that I've seen an upside-down LA stamp, but I've seen a few Corvette stamps with the VIN upside down. I found a shabby old '67 Corvette here in Austin with the VIN upside down and famous Corvette collector (rest in piece) Roby Price made famous a black '67 435 Corvette with an upside down VIN. Some say it was nothing more than an error, others say it signified a shift change or closing of the plant for a holiday weekend. There's not doubt that the upside-down stamp did occur. I wouldn't consider it a knock out factor by itself.

I've seen them before too but not specific to any plant, vehicle or engine options. .

Sure was easy enough for it to happen being a human on the other end of the gang stamp and remember as long as the number was legible, all was Ok on the line. .

Is it a whole car you're looking at or engine only? .

If a car, how's things look when you compare the fonts, spacing etc. w/ other Vin locations remembering the same gang stamp was used? .

If an engine only, aside from the upside-down thing, how's the fonts, straightness etc. look otherwise? .

Is the window of Vin production date good when comparing to the engine build date? .

If you have concerns also have time before you have to act, try to find a close Vin and compare fonts etc?

Gotta' think if someone was pulling any restamping tricks, why draw attention to anything by stamping upside-down? .

Mark,
The Leeds Chevelles are the only plant that consistantly stamped their VIN's upside down though you and I both have seem some abnormalities especially at the LOS plant. I do not have any LOS cars documented (1970 only Chevelles) with upside down VIN's.

Thanks guys! Pete, it's a car and everything looks fine otherwise. I am waiting for a better engine pad pic before making a final judgement on it.

Rick, I sent you another email or two on the 17,000 mile LS6 I found, but I'm not sure in you got them??? I'm still waiting for the docs on the car, but had it inspected on the weekend. Appears to be legit, but has had a little more "fluffing" than described. I'll make an offer if the docs check out as expected, but not anywhere near the asking price. Thanks for your help with it so far

Mark,
The last e-mail I got from you (3) was on Aug 17th complete with several photos. You askes some questions on some things that I mentioned that I saw in the photos. If you sent me an e-mail since then I did not get it. Rule of thumb when it comes to me, if you send me an e-mail I will always respond back. So if you were waiting for a response, I did not get that e-mail.

Thanks for the kudos. I am always willing to help with any questions on these cars so please never feel like you or anyone else cannot ask.
Rick
