Default Drove a new 2006 Z06; Supercar

Drove my buddy's new Z06 the other day. For a company that seems to be having lots of problems, GM sure knows how to built one hell of a supercar. What a car!!!! While I was expecting the brute power, I was shocked at how civilized this car is. Didn't even ride as harsh as I was expecting.

On top of that, he recently took a trip and got an honest 28 mpg on the highway averaging 85 mph. Don't know about you guys, but I remember when VW bugs couldn't get 28 mpg on the highway, let alone ever see 85 on the speedo.

No wonder guys are paying a premium for these things.

Lynn

Just make sure the roof doesn't fly off.

I was at my local Chevy dealer the other day with my IROC and was perusing the Technical Service Bulletins. I found the one about the Corvettes roof failures. They have the VIN sequences identified for the affected vehicle. They consider it a "repair issue" and not a recall issue. That is until one of those roofs flies off and goes through the window of school bus and kills someone's child. Can you say product liability lawsuit?

Don't be too hard on the General....looks like they got a bad batch of adhesive or something and have identified the range of involved Vins. . I'd sure be happy to be runnin' one of these....loose roof and all!

On the buggys doing 85, I always found they were faster w/ the wheels off the ground....less friction and resistance that way? . I'll bet a lot of us here have some great buggy adventures to share....I sure had my fun also spent 3 months in the hospital thinking about it. .

Hey Steve,

Does the IROC get eyeball when you're driving it?

I just got it back after getting the 1/4 panel dent fixed. (At least the T-Tops don't blow off at 85mph) I was going to submit it for the members rides section but I am kind of embarassed cuz it's a relatively common, late 80's car. It's damn fast though! I got the GM of Canada docs on the car. It's very neat that they have the info on later US produced cars that Detroit doesn't even have.

Here's a link to Motor Trend's web site where they took an '06 Z06 all out.

web page

Click on the video title next to the Z06 gauge package (5th one down). The 4 other video's on this page are very interesting too. They took a few super-tuned cars (Hennessey Viper, GT40, Lingenfelter Corvette, etc.) and had some fun.

No one seems to believe Corvette and gas mileage. I have owned two '98 and I would get 26 in the city/highway combined. I took a 300 mile trip, reset the gas gauge and got 32mpg on the trip. These are true economy cars and GM never pushes that. With gas prices the way they are I have contemplated buying another one just for the gas mileage.
