Default offenhauser push/pull side mount carb linkage

anyone familiar with this linkage ?? i'm having a tough time trying to adjust the @%#%^& linkage .i've got the front carbs linkage set-up so it's working properly it's the rear carb that's the problem.this carb has the linkage pushing the linkage open and this is the shorter of the two rods for the carbs.i'm also not sure but it seems like the throttle opens further if i manually move the linkage from the carbs.if i open the throttle from the gas pedal it seems more difficult to get the carbs throttle blades to open all the way.

so am i missing something here or am i not fully understanding how this linkage works.my linkage hooks up to the stock throttle cable on my 72 camaro. i really don't want to go with the new style linkage that weiand has with both carbs mounted sideways but facing the same direction.to me i think that linkage is not period correct,i might be wrong though.
