I am sure this has been discussed, but I could not find the thread.
I have a Dixco Ht/x hood tach on one of my mopars. I have been researching theses things and it appears they were available as a dealer added piece out of the "Hustle stuff" catalog. of course they could have been purchased after, but my install looks dealer tight. I have heard that some supercars also were given this tach treatment. I think I heard Yenko Novas. What can this knowledgeable community enlighten me with on Dixcos? |

The Dixco HT/x model was installed on the Yenko Deuce Novas, with the YENKO crest printed on the bezel. The tach was available with a variety of bezels, including the Pentastar, the FORD oval, HT/x, plain, and possibly other brand names. It was also offered via the JC Penney auto parts catalog.

I believe the Deuce is the only instance where the tach was dealer installed in significant numbers, provided 175 cars is deemed significant.
The tach is generally a mopar or ford catalog item that could have been installed by a dealer or individual.

What about Grand Prix's and GTO's and Bonnevilles ?? [/ QUOTE ] Those weren't Dixco tachs, and actually carried AC part numbers. Not sure who actually manufactured them, but I don't believe a similar tach was offered outside of the various GM lines, so they were probably designed/manufactured solely for GM.

Pontiacs were factory. My RA IV convert has a hood tach and it is very different in design than the dixco. I always assumed it was a GM made part.

That's what C-Joe is saying, the Pontiac tach is a GM piece not a Dixco item. The design, shape, wiring, etc.. is completely different between the two. The Dixco unit was an aftermarket item that was included in the parts catalogs of some mfg's like Mopar and Ford, and some dealers like Yenko, etc.. and some retailers like JC Penney, JC Whitney etc...

Don't know what tach is on them! The fact that Yenko used the same Dixco hood tach as the Boss 2's is another factor supporting the theory that the Yenko Deuce was initially an SCCA effort to get his name with the likes of Shinoda, Donahue, Penske, and they guy who did the AAR's and T/A's! The Deuce as an SCCA car? Remember the line 'trans-am suspension' on the window stickers?
