Default #3963512 block question

My friend Hans and I picked up a block yesterday. It has been decked and has no partial VIN above the oil filter.
Casting date is K 4 9
Could this have been a factory installed LS6, a service LS6 or a late service L72 ?

Anders

Anders it could be anything... Is it a four bolt main cap or two bolt main cap motor?? If it is a two bolt cap motor then it would have went into any full size car... Hope this helps. Mark

Sorry, it´s a 4-bolt main block, cast November 4 1969.

There must be a few of these around with these dated times. My "512" is also a K 4 9 casting date; its a 4-bolt CE L88 motor that is all std. There is another one of these for sale that is a CE stamped block recently that was having a date code of K 6 9. Hope this helps in any way!

There isnt much you can do without being able to read the decks.Since the engine was decked,I am assuming that it has been to the machine shop already. If the bores were original you could have tried to investigte the shadows on the cylinders to see if the engine had a 3.76 or 4 inch stroke. If it had a 3.76" stroke that late in the game,it would have been a CE engine I would think. If it had a 4" crank,it could have been an original LS6 or a replacement, but that early on,I would think it stood a better chance of being an original since that would have been only a few months into the 454 production runs, and more 454's were going into vcars at that time then going out on pallets.Either way it is all kind of moot unless you suspect it of being an original engine for a car you would like to locate.A late 69 CE 427 is a sought after engine since it lends a more credible image to an engineless original 427 supercar compared to just fitting such a car with some later 454 block, and is easier then trying to find a date code correct original block. The correct date window for the original block would be within about 2 months prior to the body date, but a CE engine could have been dealer installed for years after the car was made,so there are plenty of viable CE blocks for any given car.If nothing else,if you were going to stamp something on the deck, just stamp the CE designation.Good luck.
