I need help with the datecode on my 69 Camaro SS 396 Hurst Shifter. It looks to be original with the 3138 number stamped on the side, rubber molded inserts where the rods attach, Chrome round shift handle, etc. The date code reads "39D12K" and the car was assembled in late April. I assume the 9 means 1969, D is April, and 12 is the 12th day, but what does the "3" and "K" mean? I can post pics if needed.
Thanks, Paul 69 Camaro SS L78

Chevy never used any Hurst shifters as OEM? Nothing but the corporate shifter was good engough for Chevy. Ponitac was the only one to do that, it was John Delorean's idea to use Hurst.

Most Chevy's got the P.O.S. Muncie shifters from the factory, but 1969,70,71 Camaro's got Hurst shifters factory installed... Had to have them for Trans-Am racing...Crash

I know in 1969, Camaro's equipped with Muncie transmissions got the Hurst Shfter and linkage installed at the factory. They carried a GM part number and used a round Chrome shift handle that snapped into the shift body instead of being bolted as the aftermarket Hurst was. I would assume that Firebirds had them also. Not sure about other models such as Nova and Chevelle.

The 4speed Yenko Deuce Nova is the only Nova to come with a Hurst shifter from GM, the a/t deuces came on the column.
