Body Shops

Well, got my COPO body back from the body shop. Two week job turned into two months..nothing more than a couple of little patches along the bottom of the quarters..no big deal right?.......well after starting the finish work on the quarters something didn't look right, and as it turns out the quarters are now worse than when I brought it to him. Body lines are crooked, angles change in the middle of the panel..what is with body shops

..dont these guys get it! All of this even with a recomendation from a good freind who had work done there. I have a call back into him but I do not expect much as this was a cash deal so now I am stuck with having to undo what he has done and repair it all over again. This is hard as I am no expert(or even a novice) at metal work and must rely on others to do this work. Really frustrated at this point as I was hoping to have the car painted by April. I have NOS quarters but do not want to use tham as the car has the originals still on it and I think they are worth saving. Anyone here have any recomendations for a good shop in NJ. Money is not and has never been a issue but I can never seem to get what I pay for. Thanks for letting me vent.

Sorry to hear that Albert, especially on a COPO Chevelle! I am sure Bob could direct you to a "professional" shop, maybe the same one where he is having his 70 Duece done.

A lifetime in the business and many years of restoring these types of cars has put me in a position to help you with some direction on your problem. Believe me, there are some fine shops out there that do excellent work..........we just need to get you to one. If you want to talk extensively about this and hear about some talented people in the PA-NY-NJ area that I trust call me on my cell @ 814-450-0926. You have a valuable car and the extra effort is well worth it.

The first thing that come to my mind is the "good enough" mentality...Hey this is good enough for now,someone else has to finish it anyway..Right? Wrong! It is very difficult to get some one to do only half or part of a job and stop.They don't have to deal with the finished product now or maybe ever...Sad to say ...I'd rather see full NOS qtrs put on the right way.If done correctly it wont be an issue.Here's where a top notch resto body shop is necessary.They need to take the time to put back in all the flaws and welds that were there from GM.Correct joints,spot welds and seam finishing can be done.Most body shops opt for the body filler everywhere and the "show car" installation.If the qtrs on the car are factory,all this info is there....do your homework.Good luck on what you decide.....

Thanks to all that replied..have to review all the "new" options...George I'll take your offer and give you a call tomorrow.
