Default Makes for a long long drive home

Guess which way I'm headed!!!

Multi Car accident about 2 1/2 hours ago with a couple of deaths involved and its my direction I have to travel. Might be faster if I go around the island to get home tonight. See you all in about 3 hours!!! Only one lane open and the on ramps are all closed down anywhere after the Airport. Guess again where I work, accident side of the airport!!!

Jeff, is that near the AMR exit? I used to live in Military Housing above Tripler on Reasoner Road. My daughter was born at Tripler, I worked part time at Queens. We also lived in Pearl City just above the Sears warehouse. Is that still there? Love the blue lights on the unmarked (all) Police cars. If you have to be pulled over, makes it better to be by someone driving a Monte Carlo SS. But, that was in 1990-1994. Anyhow, I digress.............

Bob, At least in Chicago the traffic sort of moves, This traffic was STOPPED and didnt move for about 2 hours since the accident was over all 5 lanes fown the road.

Phil,

Yes the Sears warehouse is still in that area and about to be torn down and yes you can still get pulled over in whatever car the HPD officer wishes to have the City and County make payments for. Have seen Camaros/mustangs/SUV/BMW/Mercedes/PT Cruisers and just about any newer model car you can think of with a solo blue light on top of it.

Oh Big Pink still sits up on the hill, My kids were born at Tripler also.

The blue lights just brought back a funny memory I have of the only trip I made there in '83. We were downtown in the evening and I heard a siren blasting off the sides of the buildings around us and it sounded so loud as it was rushing towards us. All of a sudden a little tiny square box with a man inside it on wheels with a blue light on top went blasting across the intersection between the buildings at the end of the block. I about died laughing when I saw it.

I am actually looking for someone on Oahu. One of my old bosses, great guy! His name is Glenn Takano. Extremely long shot, I know.....but ring any bells? Also, if you ever want to see a really great backyard view.....drive up to the housing area above Tripler and look at the back =yard view we had at 355 F Reasoner Road. The fence butted up to the park, we had boar coming right up to our yard! Very cool! The other thing I vividly remember is that there was a TON of 65-68 Mustangs there thanks to Hertz! I even owned two while I lived there. We used to take them out to the strip near you and run them. Is there still a dirt track out there? I thought that was pretty cool too! The drinking section was right at the apex of the corner (kind of a tri-over deal), probably the MOST dangerous spot to sit!

Plenty of mustangs still around and theres about 6 (65-68)of them in the paper right now for sale. Hard to say if any were Hertz cars or not since most likely they have been painted over a few times. That view is nice but I think by far the best view is from Kaena Point Tracking station. The western most tip of the island where you can back yourself to the guardrail and look over the north/west shores at the same time. My wife used to work up there and her office had a huge picture window looking out over the beach below and the ocean. They used to watch the whales and dolphins swim by every season on their annual trips to Hawaiian waters. Ill see what I can find out on Glenn. Did he work Fed civilian Service or ??

He was a Civil Service worker who was in charge of the Cardiac Cath Lab at Tripler. He was married to a GI, but I think they have divorced. He moved to Texas with her in about 1993-4 but I have a suspicion that he has moved back to the Island. His father is deceased, but his mother should still be alive. I think they live in Aiea or somewhere? Anyhow, thanks for the help. Like I said, it is a long shot AT BEST!

As for the Hertz Mustangs, there are some GT500Hs there, but I was just mainly talking about the regular fleet cars. Too bad that GM didn't have the contract with the rental car companies there. Then maybe you'd be "swimming" in Camaros and Chevelles instead of those "other" cars.

Kaena Point is a very cool view, I can remember parking at the State Beach park at the south west end (what was the name of that one) and hiking with my 1 yr old in a back-pack sort of thing to the Point. Long walk, wish the road was still there, darn hurricanes.....no repsect for property! My 12 year old was born during Iniki.

WE get off at 4 and the highway was closed so we went to the Navy Exchange and did some shopping and left there at 7 and the highway had just opened back up about 10 mins earlier. Got home at 8
