I have an 010 block that the frt pad says came from a 74 Monte Carlo. The cast in date shows M 2 4. I understand the 2 and the 4, but M would seem to be 1 month to many. What am I missing here? Schonye

I am not sure if they used the letter (I) in the casting. Maybe GM thought it was to close to (1)

The Letter I was indeed used in the casting dates of Tonawanda & Flint blocks from what I have seen. And also on page 68 of Colvins 1970-75 book, shows the letter I being used in a picture.
If you read the same Colvin book, page 73,it states for Block #3970010,"Some of these blocks have been verified with a December "M" month letter code.It is unknown why this was done". |

I always try to learn easy ways to remember things. The word "stamp" has an "M" in it. Date coding that is Stamped uses the "M" for December because it skips the "I" (since it can be confused with a #1). Date coding that is CAST uses the "I", so December is "L".
I've never seen a cast "M", but if one exists, I'd sure like to see one. Verne ![]() |

Rick, I have Colvin's book, but did'nt see that item on the M in December. I'll check tommorrow. Vern, I don't trust my eyesight much these days so I had a couple of other guys tell me what they saw. They saw an M also. I'll try to get a picture of it to post. Schonye

Rick, you are correct. It does say on page 73 of Colvin's book that for some unknown reason some 010 blocks used M for December. Thanks for solving the mystery. Schonye
