I recently came across a "vintage" set of Cragar SS mags, which definitely need to be rechromed. I'll probably hire out a local place here to do it, and from what I hear, they do good work.
Here's the problem . . . One of the rims is damaged around the area where the center cap attaches. The cap still attaches fine, but it looks like someone took a hammer and chipped off a section right where it meets. The cap almost covers the chipped area around the side, but If I'm going to go through the trouble of rechroming them, I want to fix it right. How would I go about repairing it? Sorry I don't have photos.

From looking at them, I'd say they're pretty damn old. Judging by how much they've peeled, and pitted already, I'd say that they're at least 20 years old. Either that, or someone was really rough on them.
I'd prefer to do this the cheapest way possible, but still have it turn out nice. I don't have a lot of money, so I don't want to spend a fortune to repair a wheel that I could just buy new.

I know Cragar Makes a Good Authentic SS rim today that resembles the orignal very closely.Without seeing your damaged one,It may make more sense to buy their current product.

You need to start going to some swap meets. I often see used Crager's for sale there. Flea markets sometimes have them too. I go to one every Sat Morn and there is a guy that brings a flat bed trailer overloaded with used mags and tire sets.
I would not mess with trying to rechrome such a common older mag. there has to be thousands of them around the country. If you can pic them up cheap, I bet someone on here can come up with the one you need before long.

Not even considering the repair, the old wheel rechrome will cost several times the cost of a new wheel - even without pitting.

What is the thought of restoring an old set of what appears to be Torque Thrusts? The aluminum centers are not bad, the chrome edges are pretty pitted. Were they common enough, or are they worth the redoing?
