I've never seen a pair of NOS Nova sill plates with the Fisher Body tags riveted on already. Are the pair in this link really old? The part number tag looks fairly new. Did they come both ways from GM, or did someone add them to this set?

His text says,"Current GM".Those in the pix are indeed recent GM stock. It looks and sounds like he found some older Fisher tags with rivets, and applied them onto the newer sill plates, which have the NON-rivet tags already on them.

I guess he then slid them back into the GM wrapper?

Nope. He took some GM sill plates, drilled two holes, and installed rivets for the "correct" look. I think it's pretty cool, because Marlin's right.... you just don't find any really old NOS ones with the rivets.
The rivets disappeared around 72-ish, I think, and any GM service parts made since then that are floating around won't have the rivets. They also weren't removed from the wrapper. Just that little section around the emblem was peeled back.

Ok, I understand now. They looked very good, and I thought that maybe GM had some with the rivets in them. I would buy these, it would save me from doing it myself. I'm still trying to find the time to install the rivets on my Yenko's sill plates!

This is a common practice that I have done for years. When installed, the late GM sill plates with rivets installed are virtually undetectable from the pre '72's and cost thousands less.

Marlin,
Did you find a source for authentic looking rivets, or did you salvage rivets from old beat up sill plates? I'm doing the latter on mine. Haven't decided whether to just drill and epoxy the rivets, or to replace the entire logo. Gotta put the new and old next to each other to compare. |

Oh, most of the rivets on the on my beat up ones have a little half moon dent from the rivet tool.

Didn't someone post a description of this process, including photos a while back? Seems like they even offered the rivets for sale. I know I've seen it somewhere.....and I don't get out much!

I believe he posted it around here asking for input.
