Default cleaning shocks without damaging sticker/decals

I don't want to compromise the decals on these old shocks but need to get the 31+ years of grime off them to get A better look at them. Any suggestions?

Tommy

Put a sandwich bag over the decal and tape very tight, then spray the rest of the shock with oven cleaner and hose of in a few minutes should look close to new unless it has tar on it.

Bud.
