If those pics are from inside the trunk, the covers are upside down. I don't recall seeing them held with screws either.

Yes, that is inside the trunk, and I agree with you. However, this is a very early car LA built car, supposed to be original paint car but have never seen those installed upside down like that. Especially with the screws.
