Post VJ Day 9/2/45...

Today marks the 80th anniversary of the official surrender signing aboard the USS Missouri in Tokyo Bay ending the war in the Pacific. I feel it is important to remember these special moments in our history and to honor all the brave men and women who served during World War II.

Wow, my dad was preparing for the invasion of Japan. He never had to go overseas, fortunately.

About 15 years ago I had the pleasure of meeting a "plank member," of the USS Missouri who witnessed the signing of the surrender documents firsthand. He still carried his "surrender card," (his term) in his wallet and said outside of pics of his family...it was the most important document in his wallet.

My Dad served aboard the USS Manila Bay in the South Pacific arena.
Thanks Dad.
