I've never heard of such a thing and I've never seen an original tank with a logo on it. My original only had the date code stamped on the seam, nothing else. Where did you hear or see that there was a logo?

The stencil was on the raw steel roll and randomly appeared on some tanks. Not necessary to duplicate it.

I agree,it was a stencil applied by US Steel in certain areas of their lot runs they put out that were later used to form vehicles gas tanks, and not put on every single solitary tank, yet many want you to believe different. One owner probably noticed this logo on his Trucks gas tank that was cut from the area where the US Steel logo was applied,so they reproduced this stencil and sold it to the market as an "EVERYONE has to have this on their cars gas tank to be considered correct, and positioned dead center on the bottom of the tank" detail. Personally I chalk this one under overdone "happy marks". </div></div> Thanks. That's a new one on me. Mine had a grease pencil mark on the top rear driver's side, but that's it. ![]()

Here is a real assembly line stamp though not on a 69 Camaro.

I found this stencil mark at the rear of my 69 chevelle hood after the paint was stripped, probably won't include that in the restoration.

a theory i heard the logo is stamped on the roll and is how its identified for shipping and tracking of the roll of steel...so what ever is stamped first with the roll has the logo...and ive seen pics...and on orig tanks etc, its never in the same place...its almost always centered but is all over the place..and sometimes even, not a complete stamp.
ive parted sooo many cars in my life..and owned so many i cant even remember the number but its not in the 100s..its in the 1000 range for sure..and those where just my cars..ive been under cars my whole life...and have never seen the stamp..and ive had wide range of cars..never have seen it in person..and i notice stuff like this..

It's usually a ASTM number, material size & grade of material, and a heat number. They were probably painted every 8 ft or so depending on where they were heading or if the end user required it more often depending on the size of there dies and material usage. All of our material is marked one way or another, I require it for PMI and a must for matching certs for ASME code requirements.
