Default Value of a '69 442

Hi Gents, Seeking support on value...

1969 442 Coupe. Original motor, trans, rear. 4 speed. Currently red but haven't validated the cowl tag on trim/color. Has a blown up crate motor in it now which I'm told is scrap. Original motor needs to be rebuilt, and engine compartment must be freshened. Very nice body and interior.

Any help would be great.

Thanks,
Dan

Well, you aren't clear about a number of things:

- Which "coupe?" Hardtop or Sports Coupe with B-pillar?

- Which motor is it? I can assume it's the base 400/350, but have you confirmed this? It's not a W-30 or W-32?

- "Very nice body" means different things to different people. And would you give someone advice on value without seeing a car in person, if not pics on the Internet?

I'm not qualified to give a value but I think you need to give a lot more information for someone to make an educated guess.

How much $ will you have to put into it? Rebuild of motor plus new paint = $20k minimum. Offer $10K, or less depending on the asking price.
Just my SWAG.
Good Luck

Tough crowd. I was gauging value at a high level...

Its a hardtop. 400ci/350hp. Original color is gold/black. Original motor/trans/rear and all major mechanical aspects (alt, heads, intake, carb, etc). Now red/black. I do not have photos.

I own an Olds but I wouldn't call myself an expert.

However, I do know the 1968-69 cars, while attractive, have a poor reputation from its big-bore 400, which was a downgrade from the previous 400. The stick certainly helps, but I think this is one of those cars begging for a 455 for people (i.e. potential buyers) to notice unless it's restored to factory-stock.

I can post this on the Olds board if you'd like and see what some of the fans have to say.
