Default 67 427 Chevelle?

Was talking to a guy yesterday that still owns his first car, 68 Triple Black Chevelle 396 375 car.
Anyway he also has a 67 Chevelle convertible that he stated was a 427 car. I questioned him about that and he said they made them in Hardtop L88's and 500 convertibles.

I'm not a Chevy expert but thought he was wrong. What's the real facts?
Thanks
Ron

Let me put it this way: tell him you don't believe him and if he insists he is right, then say, "OK will you bet me the car if I prove you're wrong?" If he agrees, you'll be the new owner of a 1967 Chevelle convertible that a previous owner installed a 427 in years ago.

The car may not have been build from GM with a 427, but many cars with those big motors under the hood were local legends. What dealer or area did this "427" car come from?

If I had a dollar for every person who ever claimed - without real proof - they currently own or previously owned a factory built 1967 427 Chevelle, my wife and I could go out for a really nice dinner.

When he said they were L88 motors I said wasn't that a Vette only thing and he went on to say no and they built 500 convertibles too.
I knew I was right but he also didn't let me get many words in since he is a bit of a talker.
My buddy had a beautiful Black on Black 67 427 4 speed years ago and that's where I learned that there were no Factory installed.
I may be a Moper guy but I have drooled over Muscle cars since the 60's.

I think he bought it in Pa. or North Jersey was the story.

Was the Motion 67 Chevelle sold thru Baldwin Chevrolet as a 427 car? Obviously not factory installed, but maybe the closest thing !!

I doubt it was assembly line built. Test mule? Possible. Dealer installed? Possible. Owner installed? More than likely.

In my experience, this is probably a clue.

The 67 Motion chevelle that Baldwin sold was a L-78 car from the factory and Motion performance installed the aluminum head 427 along with a few more day two items before Charlie Mason took delivery so most people would assume a new chevelle with a 427 came from the factory this way..
