I am not sure if this actual rear sway bar was used on the Trans Am cars. This rear sway bar (GM 3935776) was installed on my car at the dealership but over the years was unfortunately removed.
Locating this part is becoming a challenge.

Hi Dave! I am well versed on the over the counter rear sway bar number 3935776 you are looking for. First the bar went discontinued January 1975 and supposedly they only made ten of them. They were designed for the '67 Camaro which did not have staggered shocks. If you were to use it on a '68 or '69 Camaro you would have to move the drivers side rear shock to the front side of axle. If you have brackets that are welded to the underside of your car for the bar I would like to see pictures of them and I will verify they are the correct parts for the bar you are looking for. You could use a standard 11/16" front sway bar and invert it as an option. Finding a used 5/8" bar is challenging enough but you are looking for NOS?

Years ago, I took a factory rear sway bar off an early firebird. I know it was factory because it had 2 u-bolts with the ends extending thru the frame rails. They must have been inserted before the rails were attached to the floor. I dont remember what year bird it was. I believe it was a 68 H/O model if I recall, but don't quote me... The yard had a handful of birds there that day. I put it on my 69 Camaro.
The mounting is definitely different than the weld-on type brackets Ive seen in Jerry M.s book. Was that the same part?? May be an option for you. The only NOS bar Ive ever seen was from the book (which was owned by Frank D).... maybe try HBC as he did buy a lot of Frank's collection I believe. |

Warren,
Great information on its application. The original owner who is assisting me in my restoration told me that he had an original GM sway bar installed by the dealership but removed it later on during the life of the car. Based on the 3935776 application it sound like modification to the driver's side shock would be needed. My shock mount has not been modified. It is possible that the 3935776 sway could have been used and its mounting was modified to accommodate the 68 application or was there "other" rear sway bars available (over the counter) back in the days for the 68 camaro application. If there was I can not locate the GM part numbers. Dave
