COMP CAMS # =12511-5 CAM, GRIND #=CS272TLS-6
I have the cam, and the 327. Although I was planning to use a stock L79 cam, I thought maybe I could use this one. I would go with a Z28 style intake, 2.02 valve heads, and probably a 780 Holley.

Why not run the Factory spec LT-1 460/485 cam or Z-28 485/485 from crane. ???
Depending what your application is.. Owen. .

Marlin. I just put a sock spec 178 solid lifter cam in a 350. Very happy with it. Also running 2.02 heads, a Z intake and and a 780 carb.
It is a Federal Mogul replacement cam. This cam kicks. And you can run the factory springs and not worry about wiping a lobe. Can't imagine it would be much different in your 327.

This appears to be one of the "tight lash" camshafts (around .510 lift) -- Comp indicates it is designed for racing applications ... produces good torque and power at high rpm. With that being said I don't think it would be a very good street cam. You would more than likely have to change the stock valve springs to get the RPM without floating valves.
I have to agree with Owen -- I've used both cams he has referenced and they work well with the right gear in a fairly light vehicle ...

Good to hear from you Owen!
I have this Comp cam sitting around bec/ I took it out of the Deuce and put the stock 178 cam in it I was just curious if it would even work in the 327 (for Danny's Camaro). Like you guys, I would prefer the 178 as well - but was curious. The lift on this Comp cam is 510 / 530, and I recall that I could see marks on the valve springs of what I thought could be coil bind - another reason why I took it out, not to mention Pete told me I was nuts for listening to ole Neal and that I should stick with THE stick!
