Default The Birth Of A Texaco Gas Station

Amazing clear home movies shot in 1953.

Two Wayne 505 gas pumps & an ECO islander air meter.

That must have been a high quality camera, my 8mm movies from the 70's don't look that good.

That's what I was thinking...almost 60 years old.
I wonder if it was shot with the intention of corporate promotion use, later on.

Plus how about breaking up the old concrete with 10lb. sledge hammers and no eye protection.
When was the last time you saw some one cutting dimensional lumber with a hand saw?
...Or a construction site void of safety equipment,no hard hats or safety harness's.
They also used shovels for all of the digging and surface prep leveling. No Bobcats or front-end loaders for these guys.
One guy had a big pry bar and looked like he had plenty of experience with it.

Wow - that is fascinating to watch.

I work in the commercial construction business and this clip illustrates how far as an industry we have come in safety and efficiency even though some things have not changed much at all - we still lay block one on top of the other.

Thanks for sharing.

Looks like the Masonry contractor was from Mattoon IL, I wonder if that station is still there. Anyone around that area recognize it?

Pretty cool stuff.
