Re: 67 Special paint..... - 079B on tag Spec order?
Its an FSO/COPO order code. Basically its the 79th FSO (Fleet Service Number) number assigned from the Norwood assembly plant. All special paint cars (which this one is)carry an FSO number that is approved by the Central office hence the Central Office Production Order (COPO) designation on the broadcast sheets. The B indicates either a revision to the original order, or the final destination of the car. For example the 67 Pace cars built at Norwood have FSO numbers 050A, 050B, 061A, and 062A (among others) for what on the surface appear to be identical cars, both small and big blocks made during the same time frame and both C-1 and O-1 paint. I've seen letters as high as D on the same numeric order number, and even one with a 110V code in that location indicating the car was to be wired for 110VAC power as it was destined for a car show and would be plugged into an outlet to operate all its equipment.
Basically it means you have a special paint car that was prepared in accordance with fleet service number 079B paperwork, which would identify the paint to be used and any other items that differed from a regular porduction car.
