Default 1967 Camaro BB Front Spring Tags

Hello, everyone,

I have a '67 Van Nuys-built 4K (L78) SS/RS 396 Camaro.
It has just over 39,000 original miles on it, and saw very little weather during its life.

When the engine was out, and I was detailing things on the subframe/engine compartment, I found a fragment of the original tag on one of the front springs. It wasn't complete, but good enough to make a guess as to the code, and had the complete part number, as well as to tell the colors of the tag.

I've included a photo of the fragment. It is a YG code, part number 3920286, and has a medium-blue background with white lettering.

In looking for reproduction tags to put on the springs, but I can't find any that match the original tag. The reproduction tags that I've found have a purple background, with black lettering, and use a different font style. Does anyone out there have any idea where I might be able to find a correct reproduction?

Thanks,
-Rick

The scan doesn't really match the original color perfectly...and of course, the color you see will be dependent on your monitor settings and type, and various other parameters that can vary. Trust me in saying that it is definitely a darkish blue color rather than purple. The reproduction tags are more of a light purple, and of course, the black lettering doesn't match the white lettering at all.

NIce score. We're gonna need photos of the entire car to make a definitive determination!

Go to the L78 Fan site (http://l78camaro.ning.com), and check out the photos area for user "Rick".

Check my personal profile for more information about the car.

Hi Rick, and welcome to the site. I'm not sure if you remember but we spoke about 15 years ago. I had the tahoe turquoise rs/ss L78 from Baldwin Automotive. That car was equipped with optional F41, the front springs were coded YJ 3912532 and the rear BV 3925817. I will see if I can dig up any color pics of the spring tags.

Hi, Steve,
Yes, I do remember wayback when we chatted. I've been away from the hobby for a while, putting the cars a bit on the back burner while we built a new custom home and got settled in. It's been a big distraction for quite a while.

15 years? Wow, time flies. Do you still have your car?

The thing that I'm wondering about is if the Van Nuys plant may have used different spring part numbers than Norwood did, which might explain the difference in the tag color scheme. I'm not clear if the YG spring was unique to Van Nuys because of the extra weight of the smog system that was on Van Nuys-built L78 Camaros.

There aren't many of the Ven Nuys built '67 L78 Camaros around, so the information on the Van Nuys specific stuff is pretty few and far between.

Arrgh. You're right. That is kind of lame that they don't let you look at pix and profile without an account. There are some good pix and good dialog on the site, so it's worth applying for an account. I'll try to see if I can post some pix here.

take the original (for measurements) and the scan to a decent graphic designer or copy place with a paper stock that you feel is a match - they can reproduce it and print it off on your provided paper in a match to the color. Once you cut it out you can glue at each end when you install it back on the springs.
