Heater core FAIL

Just looking for some advice. My heater core took a dump!

there is a jute type mat under the carpet which is pretty wet which I will remove, the questions is should I remove the sound deadening material also??

That original mastic sound deadener material is pretty oily and doesn't usually absorb water if it's not all dried out. The jute is definitely toast though. You can hose it off and hang it out to dry in nice weather but it's usually just as easy to buy new and replace it. I'd remove the carpet and hose that off as well. Are you in an area with decent weather so it can dry out somewhere?

The sound deadener looks is original and looks like its stuck pretty good. I'm just going to cut out the bad jute and look to replace the carpet next summer, I live north of Chicago in Kwhizz territory so the weather is going fast. I was thinking along the same lines of cleaning over the deadener real good unless it was delaminated.

You can wash the Jute out if you really want to. I own a professional drying service like a Service Master and we have done things like this before.

Take the carpet out, flush it real well with fresh water like from a city water source (not well water) with a garden hose. Flush it out for 10-15 minutes, and get something heavy to roll the excess water out of it. Then get some commmercial air movers and blow dry it. It should take a day or two for it to dry. After its dry, we usually go back with some good prespray and clean it with our van mounted machine.

This is how we clean thick old Tebetan, Kermiths and Karastan rugs.

9 out of 10 times it has too much iron or other minerals that give us funny results like smells and causing stuff to brown out on us. Now we use RO water for 90% of everything. Its more pure with less impurity particles in it.
