Default Vacationing in Virginia Beach???

We're looking for somewhere to vacation at this summer that is a little closer than Florida (we want to drive this time) and wondered if anyone has any comments on what Virgina Beach is like for a family vacation? Our kids are 7 and 9...Thanks in advance

Kids may enjoy NAS Norfolk (largest naval base in the free world) and perhaps a tour of a CVN that may be in port. VA Beach is a nice long beach front with a boardwalk atmosphere. Never stayed at an Hotels only the nearby bases, so no recommendations there. Lots of history in the area. Williamsburg not far away, Ft Lee, etc.

I did a short tour there during ASW training, Michael's nickel beer night was popular.

I would drive the extra five hours to Myrtle Beach SC with kids that young. More watersports parks and amusements for kids.

Why not the Jersey Shore? Great place to be, lots of local attractions. Philly is close, A/C is also close, as is NYC.

Spring Lake, NJ. Stay in a B&B, the boardwalk is 2 miles long, and the beach great.
