Default Starter Part & Date Number Question

Pulled the starter off my 69 Chevelle 396. Only numbers I see are stamped into the metal armature housing. They are 1107657 8D4. I am guessing the 8D4 means April 4, 1968...but don't know if that part number is correct for the car. Any help?

Welcome aboard Mark! Always good to have another 'burgher around here. Looks like yr line of buisiness is starters and alternators. And, Bill could use some help tracking down the correct starter.

Mark, thank you for your post. Since my initial post, I have also seen information indicating it is a Cadillac number starter. I had no clue there was that kind of interchangeability between GM car brands I have been told that I need p/n 1108418 - and another site member is currently trying to fulfill that need

I also see you were born 364 days after me!

If it is a 500cu.in. starter for a cadillac, that was a trick that racers used to get these engines started. If it could start a 500 cube caddy, it would start a hot Chevy. Paul

If this is a 500 cube Caddy starter, it's only due to happenstance, because neither of the car's two previous owners were into racer's tricks

Bill,
I'd highly recomend you call John Pirkle
706-860-9047
[email protected]

he's probably got the starter and date you need and at reasonable prices

Jim,

Thanks for that tip I knew John did restorations on electrical components, but wasn't aware he had components to sell. I currently have something in the works, but if it doesn't pan out, I will give John a call.
