Default Silver Dollar

Anyone remember this piece of history? It showed up on the back of a hauler this morning at Donut Derelicts.

Bruce, Joe was there with his original owner silver Nova SS that you posted all the pics of. What a great guy and great story!

James...glad that you got to meet Joe. He's one of the good guys in the hobby.

I hope to meet up with him around Christmas time...

Bruce,

Joe and his pals are top notch.

Do you have any idea who owns that incredible Tuxedo Black '69 Z with the B/W houndstooth? Member here? Is it a real 10-10 car?

WOW what a find! Yes, I remember the Silver Dollar Willys pickup. I may have a picture of it in a 1965 Drag racing book. Might have even been in Modern Rod in 64-65 or so. I will look.

The guy who brought it in fired it up on the hauler, and it sounded like it could have taken to the track right then and there! It was awesome and there was a crowd around it for two hours. I would love to see some pics of it back in its heyday.

I do not know if this is true....but someone years ago told me the height restrictions for gassers were put into place because of this truck. I think that thing is bad-a$$, and am glad it is still around.

I seen pics of that Willys truck at last years California Reunion. It is an amazing survivor. I have a vintage photo of it racing saved somewhere and it has survived amazingly intact. It looks like it came home from the Dragstrip one Sunday afternoon in the mid-Sixites, pushed into a garage and just forgotten about until recently.

As I recall the height restrictions had to do with the centerline of the front of the crankshaft, not the physical height of the vehicle. I think the limit was something like 24 inches off the ground.

True it does have to do with the crankshaft....BUT....I believe what this guy was referencing was the fact that this car was just too high...no matter where the crankshaft was, and for safety reasons, this car (truck) made em' take notice.
