Dash colors???

Was there a specific interior code for a car to receive a color matching dash carrier. I have seen cars with colored interiors and still have a black dash carrier. The reason for the question is a dash that I recently pulled out of the attic. It is red and doesn't appear to have been sprayed.
Any ideas?
