------Am I the only dope out there that is having a problem with the trunk weatherstrip??? Trunk sits impossibly high on this 69 Camaro. The parts dealers keep telling me that the weatherstrip will flatten out in time. It seems to me, though, that the two different ones I have ordered have a taller height and are more dense than original trunk strips. What manufacturers can you guys recommend???........Bill S

OER latex or vintage GM.

The newer GM nos and the latex were way to tall and made the led fit very bad, I used good old cheap soft seal and it fit like a glove. Now on the other hand the latex was perfect for the door jamb and the roof rail.

Was the original GM trunk weatherstrip a solid loop, or was it always met together from a roll? I would assume the seam should be at the lock? If it's met should the ends be glued together? OER is too high. The box says applicable for years 67-81. Thanks

GM sells a roll that's long enough for many model trunks, so you have to cut to fit, and glue the ends together. GM used a yellow adhesive like 3M weatherstrip adhesive.
I've seen several unrestored originals that had the joint about 12-14" to the driver side of the latch on the tailpan side. They also had a reddish orange mark to the pass side of center on the back glass side. |

I personally have never seen the amber glue on a 1st gen Camaro. Only black, and I have looked at many orignals...BKH

NPD makes a low profile trunk weatherstrip that allows your trunk to close like it should.

In the plant, the Fisher Body spec was to place the cut-and-trimmed joint centered on the latch; we used a small bead of pumpable black sealer/adhesive applied from a flow gun all the way around the gutter before rolling the seal into place, and used the same sealer to glue the cut ends together at the joint. Photo attached of my original 02D Norwood '69 joint.
