Default 66 Nova L79

Hello, looking for some help on a car. There is a 66 SS for sale with a 327 L79 (ZI) in it. Its a 118 car on the cowl tag. It has been assigned an out of state vin number on the door jam. The pad has an original vin number on it and the stamping to match the door jam assigned number. On the cowl tag there is a 2M which codes out as a powerglide which is whats in the car. The build date on the pad matches the car build date. My question is were all L79 cars 4 speeds or could you get a powerglide with one? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks, Larry.

As my memory serves me.......I'm pretty sure that all L-79's were manual shift.....A L-79 Station Wagon just surfaced (2 known to exist)that was a three speed on the column..........

What I know about L-79s, all were 4 Speeds. This is what I know for sure, referencing Chevelles assuming Novas were the same.

Excuse me Ken. You are right, I meant they all had Manuel Transmissions. I know in Chevelles they all had 12 Bolts. A couple of years ago, 2004 to be Exact, I met an Original Owner of a 65 Chevelle 300 Deluxe 4 Door Sedan that is an original L-79 4 Speed, 12 Bolt. Cool car, Cool old Dude. Has been racing it for 40 years.

Hello, thanks for the input. The suffix stamping on this motor fits with the late March build date on the cowl tag and has a 66 vin on it but it has been restamped above it with a state ID vin that matches the door jam. The only options shown on the tag is 2M and 5Y. The car is tubbed and was raced in the 80's. It still runs and sounds good. Thanks, Larry.

Excuse my ignorance, but what exactly is a 'restamped state ID VIN'? Never heard of it.

It looks like they stamped the block with the state (Kansas) asssigned vin number above the original vin number on the pad. It matches the door jam tag that has been screwed on in place of the Gm tag. I didn't write it down but it was something like 6S12345KAN. Larry.
