Default 68 Deluxe Steering Wheel Question

Regarding the 68 only SS Deluxe steering wheel, is the wheel itself the same as the non SS Deluxe wheel? I came across a real nice center shroud, but no wheel. I see the Deluxe wheels on ebay with a different shroud and they are a lot cheaper. Thanks in advance.

Yes,The 68 only ,two horn button, deluxe wheels are the same across the board. The center emblem will unbolt from the rear of the center section and can be swapped out for whatever you need.

Scott,
That looks like a 68 steering wheel in the auction but it's hard to tell because of the pictures. Below is a link to a deluxe wheel with the shroud attached. Is this the one you are looking for? The shroud is easy to find, I have several. The steering wheel is very hard to find in nice uncracked condition. I have seen nice ones sell for $650 and more. The emblem makes a big difference in the price. What car is this wheel for? These steering wheels were used on the Chevelle, Camaro, Nova and Impala. Early Chevelle SS cars got the SS emblem. The later ones got the SS396 emblem. I'm not sure about the Camaros. 396 Impalas used the SUPER SPORT emblem. 427 Impalas used the SS427 emblem. There is one of these on Ebay now.

Yes, that is the wheel. I have the shroud/center section, I just need the wheel. The SS emblem for the wheel is now reproduced. I'm not worried about small cracks, I'm going to have it wrapped in leather. I was trying to figure out if the wheel was the same with the different centers.

The wheels are the same. The repo SS emblem has been on Ebay a couple times for $32. Not sure of the quality but the price seems fair.

James, You've got that backwards. The early chevelles got the SS396 schroud emblem, and the later ones got SS only. It changed sometime it early January 68..

So all the deluxe wheels are the same, just the center is different? I just want to make sure before buying one and it doesn't work.

Just because an Ebay ad say deluxe doesn't mean it's the deluxe wheel. There were a few different steering wheels made for the 1968 year. The delxue one is the only one that has a shroud that mounts to it. If it is a 1968 steering wheel and it has the 3 bolt/screw holes in it, it is the delxue wheel. The part number on the one I have are 9747698.
