Like many others, I have cars stored wherever I can. . The better ones are inside, worse and or parts cars outside and some locations are not great security wise but can't do much about it. . If I had Mopars I could un-do the screws and take the tag off for safekeeping....but I'm not, they're GM products so you know what I'm up against. . I hate to take them off but feel like my pants are down w/ these tags vulnerable to thieves, kids and maybe even eBay crooksters? . I expect I'm not alone in this situation and wondered what others do or think?

No help on this one fellas? . Perhaps everyone's removing the tags and puting them back on later but don't want it known? . Maybe someone can PM me if this is the case?? . Thanks! ~ Pete

Ummm, if the trim tags are that cool (X77D80 or something), then the whole car ought to be under lock and key. If its a parts car that will never be made whole, you could drill them out. But if its an inbetweener that might get done one day and is sorta cool, you probably don't want to mess with them. I've always been the sort who only keeps stuff I can keep secure and dry. If I can't store something the way I like, I figure I have too much stuff, and usually sell off a bit until it gets manageable. Just my $.02!

Thanks Tom....good advice and the less cars thing is the direction I've been taking in recent years. . Sure if a parts car, lets remove it but what's anyone think of a tidy patch that covers the tag area so it looks like it's missing? . Sure there would be a few small holes to deal w/ later....and it won't fool a real guy, but??? ~ Pete

How about a smearing of silicone caulk or gasket sealer and quick spray of semiflat black rattlecan paint to obscure it? Should peel off fairly easily when the time comes.......

Hey....that sounds like a good one too! . I'm on the edge of taking them off but just can't shake the feeling it's wrong? . Anyone w/ any words of wisdom on the best way of removing them without damage? ~ Pete

On a car that needs work, could you tack weld a pc of metal that's a little bigger over the tag? This way the only way to get at it is to grind off the tack wled. If you have to repaint the firewall, it wouldn't take much to clean up the tack welds firewall before painting.
