Bump. Interesting read!

Just read the Camaros.net restoration thread. So paperwork, trim tag and the engine were all found and reunited with the car?

Yes - quite an adventure for YS722. Probably should bring this thread up to date since the last post was Feb 2004. The original, factory trim tag and VIN tags are on the car. Certified by JM. Many of you know that my passion is locating former owners and writing the car’s “book”. The “book” for YS722 is now 283 pages with complete ownership history from the time that it was the Central Chevrolet GM’s demo to today.

That's a great story.

So a prior owner was tracked down and that person had the tags and parted with them? What's the story on the engine?

During the 19 year period between the end of this thread (2003) and the time that I purchased the car, the previous owner (Matt) located and purchased much of the original drivetrain. You’ll note in this thread that Matt had a lead on the Yenko installed 427 back in 2002. Matt is a great guy and a tenacious researcher. With Matt’s help, I was able to contact the second owner (Bob B). Bob was the owner who removed the original tags and substituted 6 cylinder tags to save on insurance. Amazingly, Bob saved the original tags in his tool box for the next 47 years! Also, during his ownership, Bob removed the original rear and installed an Olds rear (heavy duty for racing). Bob sold (or gave) the original 12 bolt to his cousin who left it in his father’s barn for all of these years.

Yes - Matt got it and it was with the car when I bought it. Also included in JM certification.

That had be very satisfying to track those items down and you got the story on why the tags were swapped. The tag swap was hotly debated early in this thread.

So the rear is also reunited with the car it was restorable?
