Does not state if it's an LT1. I'm going to go with the LT1. That's impressive

Car is a ‘68 by the image and it would have to be a ‘70 to have an LT1 (L89 in ‘68???). If it has that big block shown in the accompanying photo, it’s had a lot of work…but impressive nonetheless on a skinny bias ply tire.

So its running in the Muscle car class, not the Pure stock class. Still impressive time on those tires, The L88 Vette is the KING.

So the guy going 9.0@150 mph is doing that with an L88 and under these engine rules?
Engine: Must be factory correct for the year, model, and horsepower claimed. Dealer installed engines and dealer performed engine modifications are not allowed. Casting numbers must be correct for the year and horsepower claimed including intake manifold, heads, and exhaust manifolds. Modifications are prohibited. Blocks do not have to be "numbers-matching," but they must be the correct displacement. Overbores up to .070" are allowed. Stock cranks only. NO strokers! Random P&G checks are possible. No lightweight cranks, connecting rods, or pistons allowed. Aftermarket pistons are allowed, but piston rings can be no thinner than 1/16", 1/16", and 3/16" for top, second, and oil rings, respectively. Gas porting of pistons NOT allowed. Metric and pressure-back-type rings (dykes, head land, etc.) are NOT allowed. Torque straps allowed. Torque straps are allowed. No after-market blocks allowed. Compression may be increased to the greater of NHRA allowable stock blue print or 1.5 over advertised compression. NHRA |

I was wondering the same thing John. When the first post went up, I went straight to the rule book. Pretty restrictive rules. As impressive as it is to run almost 9 flat with a fairly stock L-88, the suspension requirements may make it even more impressive.
13.00 SUSPENSION 13.10 Rear Suspension: 13.11 Traction devices are limited to hop stop bars for upper control arms on coil spring cars. 13.12 Upper and lower control arms on coil spring cars must be correct*. 13.13 Pinion snubbers and clamping of leaf springs are allowed on leaf spring cars. 13.14 No slapper bars or ladder bars of any kind are allowed, unless originally equipped from the factory. Factory documentation will be required to prove authenticity for any cars with bolt on traction devices. No dealer installed traction devices allowed. 13.15 Aftermarket bushings OK. Must be the correct* original color. 13.16 Shocks and springs must appear correct. Aftermarket adjustable shocks are OK if painted to appear correct. 13.17 Air bags are not allowed. 13.20 Front Suspension: 13.21 The front sway bar is optional. 13.22 Aftermarket shocks, bushings and springs are OK, but must be painted to appear correct. No other aftermarket front suspension parts are allowed. There are a lot of asterisks by the word "correct" and I could not find any reference below regarding the meaning of the asterisk.

The L88 runs under FAST class rules (not Factory Stock rules or, from the other group, Pure Stock rules) and I think the Nova runs under FAST class rules. Confusing I know…. Under FAST rules 560 cubic inches max, Approved blocks’ which means bow tie race blocks. Correct casting number heads. Internal mods ok. So basically full on modified engines with ported, extrude honed exhaust manifolds…as long as it more or less looks stock. Honestly after my Corvette is done I’d like to build a car for the Pure Stock shootout or Factory Stock rules. My pockets aren’t deep enough for FAST rules …L-O-L.

They have more than ONE class in FAST, so I think this car is running in their "muscle Car" class... I had a very warmed over 72 LT1 Vette and it never ran within 3 seconds of that time and YES....deep pockets. |
