Default 1960s Murray Jolly Roger Flagship Pedal Boat

1960s Murray Jolly Roger Flagship Pedal Boat

Selling on a Bring a Trailer Online Auction with NO RESERVE

This highly collectable 1966 Murray Jolly Roger Flagship Pedal Boat with operating outboard motor is in show quality condition. The Murray Ohio Manufacturing Company was founded in 1910, by J.W. Murray in Detroit, Michigan until it moved to Cleveland, Ohio in 1919. They originally produced fenders, fuel tanks and other parts for automobiles. In the mid 1930's the company began producing bicycles and pedal cars. Murray designers continuously set the standards with desirable and practical features.
Murray anchored its line of pedal vehicles in 1966 with a fleet of pedal boats. The whimsical, three-wheeled design was first seen in the flagship of the series. The Jolly Roger which featured such nautically correct accessories as a wraparound windshield, chrome plated bow rail, bow staff with pennant, battery operated flashing navigation light and battery operated outboard motor. The Jolly Roger was white with red graphics and had bright blue wheels. The Jolly Roger was referenced as model #8-962 from the factory. While the styling of the boat always remained the same, Murray deleted some of the accessories in the Skipper Run-A-Bout, the next in the boat series. The chrome plated bow rail, bow staff with pennant and outboard motor remained. The Skipper Run-A-Bout was referenced as model #8-961 from the factory. The Dolphin Gulfstream, the last boat in the series, had a bow staff with pennant, bright blue graphics and wheels to offset the white body. The Dolphin Gulfstream didn't offer the wraparound windshield, chrome bow rail, flashing navigation light or outboard motor. The Dolphin Gulfstream was referenced as model #8-960 from the factory. Murray's pedal boats were produced from 1966 to 1968 only and today are among the most desirable of the Murry pedal vehicles.

This example was completely restored to show quality standards. During the restoration process the body was made straight and painted white. It was decorated with red decals including the Jolly Roger red side decals. It was outfitted with a new wraparound windshield, chrome plated bow rail and bow staff with pennant. The flashing navigation light wasn't added during the restoration process. This piece is readily available if the new owner decides to add it. The roomy contoured cockpit features a red steering wheel and padded seat. The pedal assembly was painted red and new rubber pedals were added. The decision was made to paint the 8” wheels red with a white pinstripe which really adds to the character of the piece. The wheels have new moulded tires. The functioning outboard motor actuates the propeller and requires 2 “D” type batteries.
Measurements: Hull with motor is 45” in length, 17” wide and 18” high.
