My wife's longtime boss died in one of the tower collapses, she had worked for Marsh in Chicago and then she got a promotion. She was an early riser. My wife actually turned down a transfer to the tower office (before we dated). I hate to see my wife cry so I tend not to talk about 9-11 around the house.

We lost 43 people in my town that day, still very raw all these years later, as it should be

I was a freshman in HS. Still remember where I was when we found out. You could see the plume of smoke from Ground Zero while on my front lawn in Westchester. Like Jim said, still very impactful and painfully real for the families in around the NYC area. Luckily our immediate town had train delays into the city so we were devastated like other areas. Express trains are 30 mins into Grand Central Station. Let us never forget!

Like when Kennedy was assassinated, they say everybody remembers where they were. On Sept 11, I was at my Chevy dealer having a tranny service done on my wife’s Impala SS. Was talking to the service writer when the news came on that a small plane had struck the World Trade Center. As they were showing the damage, I said, that wasn’t a small plane! Just then the second plane hit the other building. I told my service guy, put my car back together, I gotta go! I got to the Long Island Expressway, and fell in with Suffolk county Police, and State Troopers. Made it to my office in Brooklyn. We came out of the Brooklyn Battery Tunnel right after the second tower came down! It was pitch black and a cloud of dust covered lower Manhattan! I didn’t get home for three days, and then spent the next six months on the pile and at the landfill. I will never forget that day!
