Default 4 Bolt Main 454 Shortblock 3963512 Dec. 8th 1969 Fresh Build

This is a freshly machined 4 bolt main 454 shortblock. The casting number on the block is 3963512. The casting date is L 8 9 which decodes as Dec, 8th 1969. There are no stampings on the pad and the assembly date is on the starter mounting pad. The assembly date of T010 on the starter pad shows this was originally a CE block used as a service replacement or crate engine that was assembled on October 10th, 1969.

This block is freshly built and has never been started since being machine and assembled. I bought this engine out of an estate about 7 years ago and sold it to the owner of a 1970 Chevelle SS convertible. He planned to install this in the car but someone made him a crazy offer on the car and he took it. The new owner planned to install a LS style engine so he kept this engine in storage for a future project. He recently sold one of his storage facilities and I bought a number of parts from him including this engine. He took very good care of this engine by keeping it oiled and triple wrapped. He turned it over every 6 months and reoiled it.

This was a ready to run long block when it came to me but the heads and intake were not correct so I removed them. The bore is a fresh 4.350 with flat top single valve relief pistons. The rotating assembly is balanced with factory dimple rods with 7/16 bolts. The crankshaft is a factory 3963521 "3521" forged unit which is the most heavy duty factory 454 crank produced. The cam and lifters are new but the specs are unknown. The timing set is the double roller type. The balancer is a new 8 inch unit. This block has no sleeves or other repairs. The only flaws I see are a couple out light corrosion marks/stains towards the bottom of the cylinders 1 and 8 that do not catch a fingernail. This is a super nice 4 bolt main 3963512 shortblock. In 1970, the only factory 4 bolt main 454 was the LS6. This is a very hard to find shortblock that is fully machined, assembled, and ready to install.

$4250 for the shortblock

I also have a pair of rebuilt 3964291 heads dated L 8 9 and L 9 9 that the owner acquired, a Holley 4557 dated 9B2(2nd week of December 1969), and new and used 3963569 intake manifolds for this engine.

Thanks,

Jason
