...Maxine M. (Goldstein) Dworin, known to all as Micki, passed peacefully at her home in Fort Lauderdale, Florida on Sunday (November 29, 2009). She was 88 years old. A resident of West Hartford for almost 40 years, Micki and her husband Hy C. Dworin developed the Dworin Chevrolet dealership in East Hartford, CT together where Micki became the first female operating automobile dealer in the Chevrolet Tarrytown zone in 1975. In 1982, she was elected president of the Connecticut Chevrolet Dealers' Association making her the very first woman to head one of the 84 Chevrolet dealers' associations in the country. She was a familiar voice to radio listeners in the 70's and early 80's as she wrote and performed all of the commercial advertising for the organization. She also pioneered mechanics courses for women seeking to dispel the notion that only men can repair cars. She was the chairperson of the First Annual Connecticut International Auto Show held at the Civic Center in Hartford and co-chaired an auto show by area Chevrolet dealers to support the March of Dimes. She served on the Board of Trustees for Hartford College for Women and on the Board of Directors of the Better Business Bureau of Greater Hartford. After her beloved husband Hy died in 1984, she worked as a volunteer helping to organize development events at Trinity College before taking up permanent residence in Fort Lauderdale, Fl. She established the Micki and Hy C. Dworin Endowment for Asian and Eastern European Studies at Trinity College as well as a special fund to support dance at the college and also established the Hy and Micki Dworin Endowed Scholarship at the University of Hartford. She was also a long-time supporter of the Jewish Federation of Greater Hartford and of the Judy Dworin Performance Project in Hartford. She leaves her two loving daughters, Judy Dworin of Bloomfield, CT and Dee Dworin Basch of Needham MA and their husbands Blu Lambert and Donald Basch; two cherished grandchildren, Kate Basch of Needham, MA and her husband Zeke Hart and Jim Basch of Stamford, CT and his wife Jen Naughton Basch and two beautiful great grandchildren Luke Elias Hart and Isaiah Benjamin Hart of Needham, MA...
