This is the house Henry Ford lived in before building the Fairlane Estate, his penultimate home. The Edsel Ford workshop replicated in Greenfield Village was located above this garage.
During this timeframe (1908-1915) Mr Ford was basking in his newfound wealth as the sole proprietor of Ford Motor Company (founded in 1903) and was dreaming up what his next steps would be.
Located one block west of Woodward Avenue, this house is 1.9 miles to the Piquette Plant (where the Model T was designed in secrecy, the first 3000 units built, and the moving assembly line for automotive use was conceived) and 2.2 miles to the Highland Park plant (where the moving assembly line was implemented and the balance of 15 million Model T's were built).
Other recognizable names in the neighborhood would be Briggs, Dodge, Nash, Cobb (as in Ty), Louis (as in Joe), Kresge (as in K-Mart) and Fisher (as in Fisher Body, Fisher Building and/ or Fisher Brothers).
