Pull the cowl panel ans see if the partial is still there and if it matches the vin tag.
But a drivetrain swap would not explain why they would bother to take the 4K trim tag off the "dead" L78 car and transplant it over to the 6-cyl body. And even a back-half partial body replacement won't explain it, because the VIN tag and the trim tag are both mounted on the cowl section of the body, so if the L78 cowl was used then the L78 VIN would be there. Has to be more to the story somewhere!
