An ALTERNATIVE. It looks original and it has updated technology!

Ed, this is essentially what I did to get by until I have my regulator rebuilt. My problem started with me overcharging my battery which caused a minor acid spill . I then contacted my local Napa store. Fortunately, the manager has a '71 LS5 'velle and he immediately turned me on to the solid state solution. Cost me $48.00 though . The original Delco Remy cover fits nicely over the new replacement base, altho I had to drill out the rivets holding the cover on the solid state replacement. The foot print of the base aligned perfectly with the radiator support holes. Not surprisingly, the solid state components take up about 1/20 of the space of the old technology voltage regulator.

Thanks to all for your input.
